Moving Against Risks

When practiced in balanced ways, Lent has remarkable effects. Penitence is part of it, and so is Lent’s goal, reconciliation and living anew. Jesuit Peter Hosking described this balance:
Lent, then, is something of a spiritual ‘detox’: a new springtime, as the name suggests. Far from being a time of loveless penance and things foregone simply for the sake of ‘giving up something,’ Lent is an opportunity to reopen our hearts to God and ourselves.
His comment is contained in this reflection.
