Word arrived late afternoon yesterday that Homeland Security Secretary, Janet Napolitano, granted Temporary Protected Status to Haitians in the United States. This means that they can stay here until it is safe to return to their devastated native country.
Here is a link to a short Associated Press story with the announcement and some details.
Many groups urges Congress to take this action on behalf of the Haitians living in the U.S. One group was the Jesuit Refugee Service [JRS]/USA. It posted the news of the TPS with details updating the dire circumstances in the island nation of Haiti.
