Islamic University Severs Ties with Vatican

Egypt is sensitive when criticized for human rights abuses. It recalled its ambassador from the Vatican after the pope pleaded on behalf of the Copts. Then a key university followed suit.

Located in Cairo, Al-Azhar University is revered throughout the Islamic world. Mr. John L. Allen
reports today that the pope's plea "for protection of Egypt’s Coptic Christians" preceded the university's suspension of "its long-standing dialogue with the Vatican."
