Lent begins next week. Lent often seems to surprise people, even when it arrives later rather than earlier (like this year). In 2009 Tom McGrath, a contributor to U.S. Catholic (with an improved website), offered "Ten ways to put new life into Lent." His suggestions can help any Lent, and they can help prepare for Lent instead of being caught off guard by its beginning next Wednesday.
