Common Humanity

“We are in this together.” “Do you need anything?” “Call me.” “FaceTime me.” People are reaching out. CSM Chief Culture Writer Stephen Humphries noted our “deep-seated desire to help and connect with others intensifies during times of crisis and it crosses lanes of class, race, and other divisions that typically keep people apart.” People are reaching out in creative ways and connecting despite prudent physical distancing. Positive emotions are a result.

Emotions don’t know social-distancing. Music elicits emotions. A religious song, "On Eagle’s Wings,” was written for an occasion. The song, which helps tears flow, reached from a funeral to national television.

In learning the counter-intuitive precaution of physical distancing, this 2017 America article may help us maintain our common humanity with poise and offer some refreshing relief.
