Defending Human Rights in the Philippines

In addition to an explosion of child sexual exploitation, that Southeast Asian government threatens human rights with a proposed law.  Christian leaders voiced concern with others that a “proposed anti-terrorism law, …will erode respect for human rights and civil liberties.”

The bill broadly defines terrorism. It also “would allow life imprisonment without parole for those in any way connected with carrying out a terrorist act, and allow suspects to be detained without an arrest warrant for up to 24 days.” The Vatican News piece also contains a minute-and-a-half audio report.
